Beer and the beach may well be an integral part of the Caribbean lifestyle, but some of India’s young cricketers posting pictures on their social media handles while relaxing on the beach with a beer in their hands hasn’t gone down too well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI said many teenagers follow the Indian players blindly so this image may lead them to take alcohol.
The Indian cricket’s governing body BCCI is not happy with the young players’ behavior in the West Indies as they are posting images of their party on their social media account that anybody can see.
In West Indies, partying on the beach with the beer is very common but BCCI is not happy. India’s young players posted their images with a pint of beer in their in their hand during a day’s outing at St. Nevis, a popular beach, the has sent an advisory to the team through team manager Riyaz Bagwan. The outings were organized in between the tour matches the Indian team had is featuring in ahead of the first Test in St. Kitts and Nevis, starting on July 21.
“Some of the BCCI officials aren’t happy with players posting such images on social media. There has been no written communication, but the manager has been asked to send a message to the players to ensure that nothing that could set a bad example should be posted online,” a BCCI insider told The Hindu on Thursday.
Cricketers like KL Rahul, allrounder Stuart Binny, speedster Umesh Yadav, and a support staff member. After the stern message of BCCI arrived at them players have deleted the images from their official handles.
In modern Indian in the 21st century having a beer in public is mainstream. But BCCI feels cricketers are role models. So they avoid these kinds of things. “Many kids blindly follow the star cricketers’ actions on and off the field, so our boys have got to always keep that in mind. They should always consider the sense and sensitivities of Indian cricket fans,” a BCCI official, with a condition of unanimity said this.
