BCCI has strictly ordered the Under 19 players to stay away from IPL trials. The measure was taken to prevent the players to risk from any unwanted injuries before the Under 19 World Cup to be played in Bangladesh in January.
The directive came from India under-19 team manager Manuj Sharma few days ago and the message reads, “No player will attend any tournament, practice match, or any Trials except Vijay Hazare tournament.” However, Rahul Dravid’s boys need not worry as they won’t miss out on any potential IPL offers with the player auction scheduled to be held after the World Cup.
Many IPL franchises have begun their trials for the next season like the Mumbai Indians who held trials in Baroda just a few days ago. The camp for Under 19 World Cup to be played in Bangladesh will start from January 3 in Bangalore. India has been grouped with New Zealand, Australia, and Nepal. The Under 19 World Cup tournament holds importance as this will give a foundation for young Indian players to shine at the World stage.
IPL has seen many Under 19 players like Sarfraz Khan who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous season, Pawan Negi played for Chennai Super Kings. IPL is a platform to showcase his talent to the world and come into the limelight. Sarfraz Khan was a part of the Indian team who reached the quarter-finals of Under World Cup in 2014 in Dubai. The Indian Under 19 team won 3 back to back tournaments and under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, the chances of India winning the tournament are bright. The Indian team must focus on the Under 19 World Cup which will help to become better cricketers.
