The richest cricketing league in the world is about to start its eighth season without a chairman and the BCCI the council governing cricket is yet is going to appoint the chairman soon.
Ranjib Biswal who was the chairman last year is the choice of the former BCCI president N. Srinivasan, while Jagmohan Dalmiya thinks Sourav Ganguly is the best person for this job. Ajay Shirke is backed by the secretary of the board Anurag Thakur. The BCCI is to decide between these 3 people to give the post of the chairman of the IPL.
If the decision about the chairman is not taken before the start of the IPL, the event will run without a chairman or a committee and the BCCI is compelled to form a special committee on for day-to-day work.
A source said that the chairman had to be announced on the day of the AGM and because the board failed to announce the candidate and any nomination now will not be legal and that a special committee is the most logical option. If nothing is finalised the working committee will run the affairs of the IPL.
Dalmiya who wants to change the way the hierarchy works does not want Biswal to continue because he is considered close to N Srinivasan and Thakur wants Shirke to do the job of cleaning up the negative image of the IPL. Shrike is the person who left IPL when spot-fixing row first emegred two years ago.
