BCCI Looking to Appoint Special Project Director, Vengsarkar Expected to Continue his Part Time Role

The future of former Indian batsman Dilip Vengsarkar as the member of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Committee will only be decided once the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) holds its next Annual General Meeting. Meanwhile, the board is all set to appoint a full time ‘Special Project’s’ Director.
When asked about the future of Vengsarkar, a senior BCCI Official who was present at the CoA meeting on Sunday said that the question of removing Vengsarkar doesn’t arise as he is not a full-time member and doesn’t have a contract.
“Dilip Vengsarkar does not have a contract with the BCCI. So where does the question of removing him arise? He is a part-time committee member. Like every sub-committee’s tenure is till AGM, same with Vengsarkar,” the official was quoted as saying by the PTI.
The Official also further added that BCCI would be soon appointing a full-time Special Project Director for the NCA in Bangalore.
“There are extensive plans with regards to NCA. We will have a Project Director, who will execute the BCCI blueprint with regards to NCA revamp. As and when something concrete happens, we would be able to divulge more information. We are also in the process of finalising the revised pay structure for domestic players,” the official said.
He also revealed that BCCI is in full support of CEO Rahul Johri who has sent a letter to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) stating about the BCCI’s views on the dope test. They have made it pretty clear that since they are not a part of the National Sports Federation (NSF), NADA has no power to test Indian cricketers.
“The dope tests are conducted by National Dope Test Laboratory and union sports secretary is the ex-officio or vice-chairman of the institution. So this is a wrong concept that we are flouting any rules,” the official said.
