BCCI Officials Raise Question Over Yuvraj Singh Missing Ranji Trophy Matches

Yuvraj Singh was India’s hero in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup. He has a huge fan following in India and around the world. However, currently, he is struggling to find a place in the Indian squad. According to reports, Yuvraj Singh is currently in the NCA and is working on his fitness to clear the mandatory ‘Yo-Yo test’ which is a bar set by the selection committee to be eligible for selection in the national side.
Yuvraj has missed four out of the five Ranji trophy matches Punjab has played this season, and this has not gone down well with some former cricketers and BCCI officials. Yuvraj played just one Ranji match against Vidarbha scoring 20 and 42 runs in both the innings respectively. It is now being learnt that Yuvraj is now putting in the hard yards to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ test which he has failed to do in the past, which has been one of the reasons for his omission from the limited over the squad.
A senior BCCI official said:
“There aren’t any reports that Yuvraj is doing rehabilitation but we have come to know that he is doing exclusive fitness training to pass the YoYo test. Now whether taking Ranji Trophy for granted is a good thing or not, Yuvraj has to decide. Does this mean that if he attains 16.1 (fitness parameter set by Indian team management) and is without any runs behind him, he will be selected for the Sri Lanka limited overs series?”
The official also said that playing in the Ranji Trophy and having runs behind you should be a priority for a player:
“We heard that Yuvraj has told the Punjab team management that he has been asked by the Indian team to do fitness test whereas selectors have always stressed on Ranji Trophy performance. Look at Ishant Sharma. He is a part of Indian team but he was released a day before Kolkata test so that he can play Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra,”
There are speculations that Yuvraj might be selected for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka which might be his last chance to make a case for himself for the 2019 World Cup.
