On a day when Anil Kumble quit the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team, BCCI has retained batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar for the tour to West Indies. Though the team will be without any Head Coach. The reluctance of the board to announce a Head Coach is understandable as there are high chances of the board announcing a new name for the job soon. In that case, they would not risk handing job of Head Coach for just one series, which they ‘ve done last year against Zimbabwe when Sanjay Bangar was given duty of Head Coach of Indian cricket team.
Virender Sehwag is expected to take up the post succeeding Kumble as it has ben learnt that skipper Virat Kohli is himself keen to bring his old state mate in the backroom staff, with whom he shares a good relation, unlike Kumble.
A statement issued by Anil Kumble, after resigning from the post, says that all was not well in the Indian dressing room and there was something wrong going on there, despite Kohli denying any news of it ahead of the league stage game against Pakistan during Champions Trophy.
Kumble has expressed surprise over Kohli having reservations over his style. Indian skipper is yet to come up with a reply on this matter.
Meanwhile, the DR. MV Sridhar, GM – cricket operations, will supervise the team management for the series. His role will also be crucial as it was earlier learnt that the role of team manager was just reduced to nothing during the home season, due to a tiff between Kohli and Kumble. COA took a note of it and was keen to take a step in matter, so the role of team manager was not just left as another man in the dressing room.
India tour of West Indies comprising of five ODIs and one T20 kicks off from June 23.
