BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel has justified the selection of India’s 30 member probables for the upcoming 2015 World Cup. A large section of fans were fuming after the squad that does not have veterans Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan was announced earlier today.

According to Patel, the squad was chosen on the basis of present performance rather than the past records. Patel also said that the conditions in Australia had a big effect while finalising the team.

Mr. Patel told the reporters “They were selected after deliberate thoughtful process & inputs from selectors. The preference of selectors was purely based on present performance and requirement of time. Process has already been completed, there is no scope, provided some extraordinary thing happens. Captain’s view has already been considered, things were discussed with him.” He concluded that the selectors will give the squad, but the choice for the playing XI will be decided by the Team Director Ravi Shastri, coach Duncan Fletcher and Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

Former BCCI vice president and IPL Commissioner Rajiv Shukla told the reporters of ANI news “Selecting or dropping of players is the prerogative of the selectors. Lot of young players and budding talent have been given a chance. Selectors have made a combination of players keeping the conditions in mind.”
