BCCI selection committee headed by Sandip Patil today selected Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of 15 member second string Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe in New Delhi. Fatigue factors and upcoming Sri Lanka series played roles in team selection among others. Selection committee rested players are skipper MS Dhoni, vice Captain Virat Kohli, spinner R. Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and selected Umesh Yadav for the India A squad.
The selection committee also picked up a squad lead by Cheteshwar Pujara for triangular series, involving “A” teams of South Africa and Australia.
A complete new team has been selected considering the fatigue factors and upcoming Sri Lanka series. Indian skipper MS Dhoni have raised the fatigue issue during the Bangladesh series where they humiliated by the host 2-1. India completed seven months of continuous cricket after the Bangladesh tour.
New entrants in the team /Player who made cut in the team
The selectors did not overlook the performance of discarded players – Harbhajan Singh, Murli Vijay, Manish Tiwary, Manoj Tiwary and Robin Uthappa – who have been consistently performed well for their team in domestic cricket.
Sparkling performance of young all rounder Karan Sharma, bowler Sandeep Sharma, and batsman Kedar Yadav in the Ranji Trophy and IPL respectively has been paid off by the selectors.
Mohit Sharma, Dhawal Kulkarni Stuart Binny and Ambati Rayudu have been kept in the team.

This India team will tour Zimbabwe without any specialist wicketkeeper, either Rayudu or Uthappa will have to play the role of wicketkeeper.
Tour finalised on last saturday
After a dispute over broadcasting right, BCCI has finally confirmed India’s tour to Zimbabwe Cricket Union. India will play three ODIs and two T20 internationals during the tour with all to be played at Harare Sports Club.
The committee will also select the India “A” team for the tri series at Chennai, involving South Africa “A” and Australia “A”. The tournament will be played in Chennai and Wayanad, Kerala from July 19.
Earlier, the tour was under severe threat as Ten Sports holding the broadcasting rights for Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). BCCI president Jahmohan Dalmiya said the two boards have since made progress and final decision would be taken after another round of discussion on Saturday.
At Babados, on the sidelines of the ICC Annual Conference ZCU chairman Wilson Manase and Chief executive officer Wilfred Mukondiwa had several interactions with BCCI secretary Aurag Thakur and eventually managed to break the ice.
There had been issues, but Zimbabwe Cricket badly wanted this tour and we also want to play cricket,” a senior cricket board official said.
