The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to appoint the new team manager for team India, handing him a contract of full two years. The board will follow the same procedure which they are using to appoint new Head Coach of the side i.e. they will advertise for the post and the interesting candidates can apply for the same.
Till now, the BCCI used to appoint coaches on tour to tour basis with a new man coming in for every tour. Though Kapil Malhotra – who is with the Indian team in Windies – was there with the Indian team during the long home season. Earlier, it was Milind Kanmadikar of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association who was to tour with team India to Windies but COA disapproved his appointment, as there was no procedure followed whilst his appointment. To make a change in the functioning of the board, COA has shown a desire to appoint a new team manager who can put up true facts ahead of BCCI without having a fear of loss of his job.
The stern step has been taken by the board after it was reported that the role of team manager was left for nothing during the long home season. He neither convened the selection meeting nor did perform his role due to the conflict between Head Coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli. The team was divided into two parts and team manager was just another person in the dressing room. To prevent all this, BCCI is looking forward to handing over the job to a person with a contract. Just like new Head Coach, the new team manager will travel with team India to Sri Lanka and will be there with the team till 2019 World Cup.
