CK Khanna, the acting President of BCCI, has said the board is working on a plan to raise the income of domestic players. Khanna has batted for an increase of minimum 50% in the salary of the players,
“The domestic players’ pay structure needs to be reviewed. In my opinion, a minimum 50 per cent increase is a must. I have had discussions with our treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary and he is working out the modalities. I believe that our team can put up a nice proposal before the general body, which is the forum which can clear policy decisions,” Khanna told PTI.

The matter regarding the pay of domestic players first got air when Harbhajan Singh wrote a letter to the former Head Coach of Indian cricket team, Anil Kumble, in which he requested the coach and members of the fab four of Indian cricket to take up the pay matter to the board. The letter was written at a time when Kumble was to come up with his presentation in front of COA, where he asked for a hike in his salary and that of the captain.
Though Kumble resigned after a month of making his presentation, the letter from Harbhajan Singh made its impact as Sourav Ganguly himself spoke about the matter on August 1, where he batted for an increase in pay of domestic cricketers.
On one side, where BCCI double the contract fees and the salary of one Test match of Indian players, the amount earned by a domestic player is very less when compared to what an international player earns. The board is now all set to look into the matter and soon, we might hear an announcement regarding the same.

Meanwhile, the board announced the schedule for the upcoming home season of Indian cricket team, where they will play 23 home games. Apart from that, the board also decided to revert the neutral venue format in Ranji Trophy, which means that a side will play an equal number of matches at home and away from home. The committee also decided to retain the format of Duleep Trophy where again, the tournament will be played with a pink ball under lights.
