It was again a dominating performance by Team India on Day 2 of the 3rd and the final Test against Sri Lanka at the Feroz Sha Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. After declaring the innings on 536/7, the Indian bowlers ripped through the Lankan top order before Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews ensured Sri Lanka went to. tumps without the loss of more than 3 wickets. It was a disciplined bowling performance by the hosts as they kept on troubling the Sri Lankan batsmen.

Resuming the day on 371/4, India carried on from where they left the previous day. Captain Kohli shared a brilliant partnership with Rohit Sharma which took India beyond the 500 mark. Kohli reached his 6th Test double century by tucking Suranga Lakmal towards the leg side for a single. He looked in ominous touch and started taking on the bowling attack with Rohit.

Meanwhile, the smog at Delhi played spoilsport all through the day as the Sri Lankan players found it extremely difficult to breathe in the polluted air. They came out wearing masks but as per reports several of them went out of the ground and vomited. There came a situation when a couple of support staffs were ready in their whites as several players were finding it difficult to play in those conditions.

However Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun taking a jibe at the Lankans said that in the same conditions Kohli batted for almost two days without a mask.

“Virat batted close to two days, he didn’t need a mask. We’ve focused on what we need to do and achieve for the team. Conditions are same for both teams. There is pollution everywhere in India. BCCI has fixed the schedule. Our job is to go and play so we are focusing on that,” said Arun.

Meanwhile, Arun heaped praise on Kohli who is going through a sensational run in all forms of cricket. He became the first captain in the history of the game to smash 6 Test double centuries.

“His absolute focus, attention to details, in terms of fitness, game preparation, his skills, he’s spot on,” Arun said. “He’s an example of what you need to be as a cricketer. That shows in his success rate.”

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka head coach Nic Pothas said that it was an abnormal case and they will wait for the ICC to take a decision as their job is to come and play. “I think the match referee and the umpires will file a report to the ICC. Our job is to play cricket,” said Pothas
