India medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had an outstanding year in International Cricket has been emerged as one of the five players who nominated for this year’s LG People’s Choice Award which will be presented during the ICC annual awards.
The 24-year-old bowler from Uttar Pradesh had a sensational tour of England recently and won the hearts of people with his performances in all forms of the game.
The players nominated for the award are England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards, Australian fast bowler and Ashes Hero Mitchell Johnson, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn and of course Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The LG People’s Choice Award will be presented to the player who gets the most number of votes casted by the public.
The short-list was nominated by an elite panel of cricket experts, which is headed by ICC Cricket Committee Chairman Anil Kumble. Other members of the panel are Jonathan Agnew, Russel Arnold, Stephen Fleming and Betty Timmer.
ICC CEO Dave Richardson said: “The support of the fans is vital for the game and particularly valued by the players – hence, the significance of the LG People’s Choice award. The overwhelming number of cricket fans who participate to select the winner of this award has made it one of the most prestigious awards in the ICC calendar.”
Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Kumar Sangakkara (2011 and 2012) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2013) are the previous winners of LG People choice award. The ICC Annual Award Ceremony will take place on November 5 at the ICC Head Quarters, Dubai.
