Bookmaker attempted to convince Sri Lankan players to give up Test for West Indies

Sri Lankan investigative agency is probing an alleaggtion that member of national cricket team was approached by bookmaker duirng the Sri Lanka West Indies series in the Indian Ocean isle, Soprts Minister revealed on Friday.

Bookmaker appraoched wicket keeper Kusal Perera and star spinner Rangana Herath to engineer Sri Lanka’s batting collapse at a Test in Galle in October.

They wanted a surprise victory for West Indies, Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said.

“We have started a police inquiry in addition to an anti-corruption probe by Sri Lanka Cricket,” Jayasekera told AFP.

West Indies have lost the entire series. Sri Lanka has defeated West Indies in the two match Test series 2-0 followed by a three match ODI series 3-0 while the T20 series was drawn 1-1.

West Indies cricket slumed to its worst ever performance. Once a force to reckon with now a debris in international cricket. West Indies has lost its respect as the dispute between players and board led to many key player’s exclsuion from the team. The current team lead by Jason Holder is obeying formlaties nothing else.

They failed to win a tour game against Sri Lankan Board President XI. Currently, they are touring Australia, where they were humbled by both Board President XI and the Australian team.

West Indies never won a series in West Indies, even not during their heydays, but they used to share a fascniting rivalry with Australia. Now, the result of the series is decided even before the series start as West Indies with a shaky team will beat Australia Donw Under is ahallucination.

So, if a reckless West Indies beat a rather strong Test side at their home soil that will be considered as shock and upset in world cricket.

In 2014 Dwayne Bravo lead West Indies team refused to play ODI against India which led to a long fiasco between BCCI and WICB. BCCI suffred a financial loss, WICB banned Keiron Pollard and Dwyane Bravo for masterminding the protest.

Players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell play franchise-based T20 league across the league instead of playing for their country.
