Sunil Narine has been a spin bowling wizard and there are absolutely no second thoughts regarding that. His variations have bamboozled several world class batsmen and all the batsmen have struggled massively against the cunning Trinidadian.
Things however, took a drastic turn for the Knight Riders when Narine was reported twice in the 2014 Champions League T20. By the virtue of that, he had to remodel his bowling action based on the scans done over his bowling. In this IPL, he bowled with the remodeled action but did not have the same venom. The Trinidadian was also low on confidence.
To deteriorate matters, he was once again reported in the IPL and this time the results of the bowling tests were catastrophic. Narine was banned from bowling the off spiner, thus making him redundant. This was a jolting blow for the Knight Riders.
The veteran Brad Hogg replaced him and since then has been sensational. The chinaman has thrived in the IPL so far and is enjoying every bit of it. In the four games so far, the Australian has picked up 8 wickets at a miserly economy rate of just 6.21. He has ensured that the Knight Riders are not hampered in Narine’s absence.
Manish Pandey, the talented middle order batsman of the Knight Riders feels that Hogg and Johan Botha are completely competent in filling up the void left by Narine’s absence.
Pandey was quoted as saying, “We are missing Sunil, he has been a great part of the KKR team for so long, but I think JB (Johan Botha) and Hoggy coming into the team are making a difference.”
