The Wall and also the former batting star of India, Rahul Dravid speaks of India’s hopes in England. The Wall believes that he is confident about India’s good performances in England in the 5 match test series which starts from 9th July. He believes that India will shine immensely if they are able to bowl well in English conditions which are hugely seam-friendly.

Rahul Dravid spoke to the media at a promotional event organized by Gillette in Mumbai on Tuesday. On being asked about India’s hopes in the coming series, he said, “It is going to be a challenging series, there is no doubt about it. If India can find a couple of bowlers who can step up during the series, then I think they are in for a great series.”

It is also a mentionable fact that India will be playing a 5 match test series for the first time since 1959 and Dravid himself did not play a 5 match series in his career. Dravid feels that MS Dhoni led present side possess the required talent and showed plenty of signs in their series to South Africa on late last year and to New Zealand on this year.

On being asked about the 5 match test series, his words were as such “I think five Test matches is never easy but I believe India has got a pretty good side. “

He also felt that India failed to grab opportunities in New Zealand and South Africa series. He said “From what I have seen in the last two series in South Africa and New Zealand, they came close to winning a Test match in both the series. Whether it was in Johannesburg or whether it was in New Zealand, they had their chances but they just couldn’t grab them.”

Dravid was a member of India’s team in the humiliating series in England a few years back where they lost to England by 4-0 in a 4 match test series. He said that picking 20 English wickets is the main thing. His words were as such, “I think this might be a good time and a good series for them to make that jump and actually win one or two Test matches abroad. If they do that then they will get a lot of confidence because they are quite a young side, a developing side. The challenge again I believe for India is that ability to get 20 wickets.”

He also added by saying “You must find a way to get 20 wickets. You saw that with Sri Lanka in the last game as well, they just didn’t seem to be able to get 20 wickets against England. That becomes a big challenge for sub-continent teams when we travel abroad.”

Before the 1st test from July 9th  at Trent Bridge, India will play 2 warm up games there. The tour commences on June 26 with a three-day game in Leicester and the second one is  against Derbyshire (July 1-3).

The next matches of the fixture are to be played at Lord’s (July 17-21), Ageas Bowl in Southampton (July 27-31), Old Trafford (August 7-11) and The Oval (August 15-19) respectively.

The Indian squad is packed with packed medium pacers. Still Rahul Dravid feels that it will be the spinners in the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin can come handy in English conditions if the weather is hot.

He stated “I believe if the summer is hot and if the Test goes on till fourth and fifth day, it does start turning in England and people like Ashwin and Jadeja can come to the fore as well.”

Dravid advises the pacers to keep a fuller length and maintain it in the tour. He said, “There are good conditions sometimes to bowl on in England but you have got to bowl well. Your lengths have got to be right because if you bowl the wrong length in England, you can get punished very badly.”

It will be keenly seen by the Indian fans about how they perform in the English conditions.
