Many voices have been raised for the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad as well. Even Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian legend, has batted for giving Bumrah a go in Tests.

Now, a report in TOI suggests that Bumrah, along with Yuzvendra Chahal, are in contention to get included in the Test squad for the series against South Africa, which will be played next year.

Team India is set to fly South Africa next year for three Tests, six ODIs, and three T20Is. While the inclusion of Chahal and Bumrah in ODIs and T20Is is an automatic one, they are yet to receive the Test call-up, and if included, this will be the maiden call-up for them in the longest format of the game.
In fact, these two are the only two players in bowling department in ODIs who haven’t received a Test call-up. Players like Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur – though they are yet to make their Test debut – have been part of Test side in the past.
Chahal has become an India regular recently, but Bumrah has been part of the team since his debut. His strange action seems to be the reason behind selectors not giving him a go in the Test format, but now it looks like he has impressed the selectors and is in line to fly to South Africa for his maiden tour to the country with the international team. Chahal has been to South Africa with the ‘A’ side in the past.
The squad for the series against South Africa is expected to come out during the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka tour of India ends on December 24, and just after a couple of days, members of the Indian cricket team will fly to South Africa for a two-month long series. Before the start of the international fixtures, India will play a two-day practice game from December 30 to 31.
The first Test match will be played on January 5 to 9.
