CAB lists series of events during second Test against NZ

Kolkata, Sep 24 (IANS) The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday listed a series of programmes it is planning when the second Test against New Zealand gets underway here from September 30.

India are currently playing their 500th Test in Kanpur where former men and women captains were felicitated on the first day.

“The hallowed turf of Eden Gardens last hosted New Zealand half a century earlier and in that sense September 30, 2016 is another occasion of celebration,” CAB joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya, said here.

Keeping up with the tradition, the CAB has lined up a series of events for the second Test. To start with Eden Gardens will get its bell that will be rung to mark the beginning of the match.

In addition, cricket zone, food stalls, drummers, flash mobs, caricature artists, stylist stations and a host of activities have been envisaged to keep the crowd buzzing.

As related by president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly earlier, the association is contemplating to organise a talk show and is also planning to undertake a project called ‘Down Memory Lane’ capturing history of Indian cricket through pictures that will be exhibited for all five days of the Test match.

The CAB has joined hands with the Lions’ Club to bring in 4000 underprivileged children across the state to the stadium to watch the opening day of the Test match which in itself is a record.

Furthermore, in order to spread the awareness of Test cricket, the association has decided to issue free passes to all the 44 schools that participated in the tournament organised by it.

Also, in order to encourage the young budding talents, it has been decided to allot passes to approximately 200 cricket coaching centres that participated in the junior as well as to another 200 centres (approx) that participated in sub-junior cricket tournament.
