Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is perhaps one of the oldest state cricket boards of the country and it will celebrate 150 years of Eden Gardens. It is also known that there will be a series of events that are scheduled to take place on the eve of the 150th anniversary of Eden Gardens.
Among all these events, there includes, the first day cover and stamp release along with felicitation of the first 150 living members of the CAB. Also, on that note, CAB has made a proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to schedule an ODI in the Eden Gardens between India and West Indies in the month of October this year. Also BCCI has agreed to the proposal.
And it is also known that CAB are inviting the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee or Major General, Dalbir Singh as the chief guest on the day in which the match is to be played.
Cricket writer and also former Captain of Bengal Cricket Team, Raju Mukherjee has already wrote a book on the history of the Eden Gardens. CAB came to know about the interesting fact that Eden Gardens was born on 1864 and the first match was played there then. The series of the scheduled events will commence from 13th September to October.
Also the book about the history of the Eden Gardens by Raju Mukherjee will be released officially in the very first event. The CAB President, Jagmohan Dalmiya and also the joint secretary of CAB, Sourav Ganguly will do the honours for the purpose. The Treasurer of CAB, Bishwaroop De has already affirmed that the celebration will be a grand one.
Among other events, the most important of all will be the tableau which will be carried out by the former and the present Cricketers of Bengal in a vintage Austin all across the city. The tableau will commence its journey from the birth place of Sarada Ranjan Roy who is considered to be the Father of Cricket in Bengal.
