1. Rohit Sharma

The star Indian opener is the maximum run scorer for the 1st position. It was the Australlian team visiting India in the year 2013 for a series and it was the 7th ODI, when Rohit Gurunath Sharma opened the innings at Chinnaswami stadium , Bangalore, faced 158 balls to make a mammoth 209 runs. That innings included 12 4s and 16 6s, which is the maximum no. of maximums hit in any ODI innings. He shares this record with Chris Gayle and AB Devilliers.

2. Rohit Sharma

Rohit is featured again in the list for his gigantic 264(173) innings played during Sril lanka’s tour to India in 2014. He opened in the non-striker’s end, and thus became the maximum run scorer in the 2nd position. 264 is the highest individual score by any batsman in an ODI. The innings took place in the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the 4th ODI of the series. He hit 33 4s in that innings which is a record still unbroken.

3. Charles Coventry

For batting position number 3, it is Zimbabwe’s Coventry who holds the record with his unbeaten 194 off 158. The Zimbabwe team was playing a home series against bangladesh in the year 2009 and Coventry, with the help of 16 4s and 7 6s. It was a record highest score in ODIs back then till Sachin Tendulkar broke it with his double ton.

4. Viv Richards

In the 4th position, it is Sir Viv Richards, the maestro from West Indies. The WIndies were on a tour to England in the year 1984 and it was the first ODI of the series when Viv hammered the English bowlers to put up and invidual score of 189 not-out making it the highest for forth batting position. He took 170 balls and the innings included 21 4s and 5 6s. The match was played at Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester.

5. AB de Villiers

Talking about maximum runs and mr. 360 degrees of cricket not present? Not present. AB Devilliers made his mark in the 5th spot of the list by scoring 162 runs off 66 balls and that too with a style. It was the Cricket World Cup, 2015 going on and South Africa were to face West Indies and the SA captain decided to make sure they win with this huge personal score. The match was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

6. Kapil Dev

Just like ABD, India’s first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev also scored it in the World Cups and made his way to the list. It was West Indies again, against whom India were about to face their group league match and Kapil Dev, came to bat at no. 6. Astonishing the crowd at the Nevill Grounds, he went on to score 175 runs from just 134 balls. The innings included 16 4s and 6 6s and helped India establish a clear win against the two times defending champions.

7. Luke Ronchi

It was like a warm up tournament before the 2015 world cup for both the teams as Sri Lanka went to play New Zealand at their home grounds. While everyone thought Grant Elliot had done great with his century, there was Ronchi who took it further by scoring 170 off just 99 balls, easily making it the maximum at seventh batting position. The crowd at Dunedin, who had come to watch the 5th ODI, witnessed an innings which had 14 4s and 9 6s.

8. Thomas Odoyo

During the 2006 visit of Bangladesh to Nairobi, in the second ODI, Thomas Odoyo walked in the Gymkhana Grounds at number 8 and ended up scoring the highest runs in that position with his 97 balls 84. Sadly, despite this innings, Bangladesh won the match.

9. Andre Russell

It was in the year 2011 when India visited West Indies for a series. It was the 3rd match of the series and Russell took the crease coming at no. 9. From there, he scored 92 off 84 balls, contributing most runs in that innings for WIndies. Though his side lost the match, the innings is remembered for the maximum scores that he score in that position.

10. Ravi Rampaul

This time, the the West Indies had come to India following India’s visit in 2011 and it was the 2nd ODI being played at Visakhapattanam when Ravi Rampaul made a record, but not with a ball- with a bat. He came down at number 10 and scored 86 runs off 66 balls. That innings included 6 6s, maximum hit in that position which itself is a record. This time also, India won the match.

11. Shoaib Akhtar

The Rawalpindi express had his express run with the bat as well, to many people’s deficit knowledge. During the ICC world cup of 2003 while Pakistan were facing England at Cape town, Shoaib came in the 11th position, took 16 balls and scored 43 runs. His strike rate of 268+ is the maximum in that position, though Pakistan lost the contest.
