Lions are almost out of the tournament after they have lost two out of three games and the only other game being washed out. Lions will have themselves to blame as their batsmen struggled on a pitch that assisted the pacers well. However it was the spin duo of Harbhajan [4-19-1] and Ojha [3-26-2] who tied down the Lions batsmen with some disciplined bowling. If not for Dwaine Pretorius 31(21) [1-4’s, 2-6’s] and skipper Peterson 35(27) [3-4’s, 1-6’s], Lions innings wouldn’t have crossed 120. A few lusty blows towards the end took the score to a competitive total of 140.
Mumbai Indians chase wasn’t as smooth as the general picture says. They lost their opener and veteran Sachin Tendulkar for 5 as he was castled by Sohail Tanvir. But his partner Dwayne Smith 63 (47) [4-4’s, 3-6’s] held on to his wickets and scored at a brisk pace. Both Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma couldn’t convert their starts and fell off after a few hits to the fence. Pollard then struck a partnership with his fellow West Indian as both of them took the ship to safe waters. Pollard struck few mighty blows towards the end scoring 31 off just 20 deliveries which included 3 sixes and 2 fours. FUNDA:
