What a respite this particular win has brought. This victory was badly needed by team India against West Indies in the second ODI at Feroze Shah Kotla ground played yesterday. After losing the first ODI at Kochi by a huge margin, the credibility of team India was at stake. Also, the constant poor form of Virat Kohli had created a big question mark in the minds of millions of the Indian fans, as Kohli is a very important player whose non-performance leaves a direct impact on the end result of any match.
The Indian bowling attack, despite having so many talented bowlers, is still not treated as fully trust worthy. However, Feroze Shah Kotla ground proved to be lucky for MS Dhoni as not only Virat Kohli got his rhythm back and scored 62 runs, but Mohammad Shami, Jadeja and Amit Mishra with their timely skill, snatched the match from West Indies. Raina, as usual, played like a real star and has lived up to his image of a warrior.
Many of the supporters think that sending Rahane at the number three slot might have helped team India regaining its form back. But captain MS Dhoni, who had himself given a vital contribution of 51 not out, has made it clear that his decision of changing the ball after 41.1 overs proved correct and the West Indians could not sustain their form thereafter. Dhoni said,”It was a double-bounce wicket and we thought 265 was about 20 runs short of what we would have liked on the board. But the bowlers did well by denying their batsmen easy singles and forcing them to look for fours and sixes. That put pressure on them. The dew helped the pitch change its character under lights and helped the batsmen batting second. But our fast bowlers have done well in helpful conditions. Today they did well and created opportunities. (Amit) Mishra’s spell was crucial before (Ravindra) Jadeja bowled those 2-3 good overs.”
He added, “we are still working on it with the World Cup round the corner. Today, it (the decision to send Ambati Rayudu at number three) was fruitful for both Virat (Kohli) and the team. It also disturbed the opposition’s plans. They have all-rounders, big hitters besides having aggressive and natural players. It is a dangerous team with the right ingredients. I don’t see any reason why they cannot be successful on a consistent basis..”
