In the clash of the T20 champions, both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians hold tons of experience under their belt. It’s not just T20 cricket experience but the experience of playing in big finals too. While the men in yellow have won the IPL title twice and the Champions league title twice too. With 4 titles in their bag, all of the under MS Dhoni, CSK look a formidable team and the pressure of final should hardly bother them.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL title once but have managed to emerge as the Champions league champions twice too. They have 3 titles in their bag and look an equally strong side as CSK. With that being said, it wouldn’t be wrong to call the final of IPL Season 8 as the clash of the T20 champions.
With seven titles among both the teams, these two teams have faced each other in the finals of a T20 tournament only twice.

IPL Season 3 Final: Played on 25th April 2010.
The final of IPL season 3 was played Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai between MI and CSK. At that both teams were desperate to win their first IPL title. Though CSK managed to enter the finals in 2008 as well, this was the first time when MI had entered the final.
CSK batted first and after a stead start, the team lost both its openers. Raina scored a 35-ball 57 and remained unbeaten. He ensured team reached a respectable score. In the end, CSK managed 168 runs. With MI coming in to bat, they really couldn’t take on the CSK bowling. Sachin top-scored with 48 and Pollard and Rayudu contributed with quick 20s each. In the end MI fell short of 22 runs and CSK won their maiden IPL title.

IPL Season 6 Final: Played on 26th May 2013
The sixth season of IPL was the second time when both MI and CSK were meeting in an IPL final. The match was being played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This time MI batted first managed to put 148 on the board. Pollard played a blistering knock of 60, which came in just 32 deliveries.
The pitch was tough to bat on and the CSK batsmen struggled too. Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga bowled tight lines and as a result the top and middle order of CSK failed miserably as first 6 batsmen could only score 34 runs, which included 2 ducks. Dhoni tried his best to revive the team but it was too late as he walked in on number 7. He was unbeaten on 63 and played 45 balls. CSK lost the match by 23 runs and MI managed their maiden IPL win.
