Cheteshwar Pujara to Miss Arjuna Award Ceremony

Cheteshwar Pujara has become one of the most dependable batsmen in the Indian team since his debut.

Pujara made his debut in October 2010 against Australia at Bengaluru. He is one of the rare old school batsmen in the current crop and is best known for his technique, and his bottom hand dominated batting.

Pujara is known as the best replacement for India’s previous ‘Mr. Dependable’, Rahul Dravid. He already has two double centuries to his name, as one against Australia (202) and another against England (206*).

Cheteshwar Pujara and Harmanpreet Kaur are the two cricketers among the list of 17 athletes to receive Arjuna Award for their excellent contribution to the country. Pujara is currently in England playing county cricket for Nottinghamshire and will not be able to attend the award ceremony because of his county commitment. The award ceremony will be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday, which is also the National Sports Day. He said,

“I am truly honoured and grateful for being conferred with the Arjuna Award. Unfortunately, I will not be able to receive the award in person due to my commitment to the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club in England. My dedication to the game has made me what I am, and though it would have been an honour to attend the award ceremony, grabbing any opportunity to play this wonderful game has always been of utmost importance,”

Pujara has played 51 Tests in his seven years of international cricket scoring 4107 runs at an average of 52.65. In his last series against Sri Lanka, Pujara scored 309 runs at an average of 77.25 in the three-match Test series. His contribution to the team has been a major boost for the middle order.
