With Chris Lynn set to remain on the sidelines for few months, as he recovers from the shoulder injury, the 27-year-old hard-hitting batsman has not been offered a contract by the Queensland Bulls for this summer. According to Cricket.com.au, the surprising decision has been made with Lynn’s input and approval.
In a statement released by the Bulls, the team stated that the batsman will be considered for selection once he regains full fitness.
“While Brisbane Heat contracted player Lynn was not offered a Bulls contract, he will be considered for selection like any other player once he returns from the shoulder injury that currently has him sidelined until early next year,” the Bulls said in a statement.
Lynn, who went under the knife last month, is set to miss at least the first half of the Australian summer and is also doubtful for the Big Bash League. He has not turned up for the Bulls in one-day cricket since 2013 and played just one Sheffield Shield match last season.
Lynn has a long history of shoulder problems and that continued in this year’s Indian Premier League too when he dislocated his left shoulder while making a diving attempt for a catch against Mumbai Indians in the second game of the tournament for Kolkata Knight Riders.
The injury in the IPL was the third occurrence of his shoulder injury in less than two years. Prior to the injury, which forced him to miss the major part of the tournament, the Queenslander had missed the first half of the 2016-17 season after dislocating the same shoulder in Sri Lanka last year. He had also undergone a surgery on the same shoulder in 2014.
Earlier this month, Lynn had said he underwent surgery for longevity and also admitted that another shoulder injury could end his career.
“Longevity was why I took that option to have the operation. It’s a short-term loss for a long-term gain,” Lynn had told Courier Mail. “They [career ending] are words you don’t want to hear but they are down that path. I’ve got to be more cautious and have more smarts about how I go about things.”
