COA Overlooks BCCI, Pays One-Time Benefit To 13 Cricketers

The Committee of Administrators (COA) led by Vinod Rai overlooked the Treasurer of BCCI Anirudh Choudhary and paid one time benefits to former 13 cricketers. Each player was paid an amount of 35 Lakhs, without the signature of board’s official. This is the first time when such a thing has happened as though the Supreme court of India has appointed COA to run BCCI but still, the board officials have some power in their hands. This time though, it was not the case.

Professor Ratnakar Shetty and CFO Santosh Ragnekar were asked to use their discretionary powers to sign the cheques, and thus, the fund was released to pay the former Indian cricketers.
The list included the likes of Lal Chand Rajput, Atul Wassan and few other players who played one to nine Test matches for India. The decision to clear one-time benefits was finalized on June 26 but there was no development in the matter thereafter. COA took the note of it and showed urgency to clear off the payments.

A few days back, the board also decided to pay one-time benefits to 55 former Indian players, which includes likes of Sarandeep Singh, Bharat Arun and Vijay Daiya. A decision on this matter is yet to be finalized but this time the board will keep a keen eye on the movement of COA as the committee paying cheques to players directly is a violation of rules. It is the board who has the right to clear the payments, with the signature of the treasurer i.e. Anirudh Choudhary.
