After the 10th edition of Indian Premier League Players’ Auction (IPL) was conducted successfully on February 20, the cricket governing body –Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) officials were called in to be present at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai on February 25 – to have a meeting with Committee of Administrators which is led by Vinod Rai.
However, COA chief Rai was not happy with the Rajiv Shukla’s presence at the IPL auction. Following the Supreme Court-led Lodha Committee, Shukla stands ‘disqualified’ as Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association Secretary.
The employees were summoned a day after the cash-rich Twenty20 league marked the tenth year when it was conducted under board’s Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri in Bengaluru in which 66 players were sold whiling springing many surprises on the table.
According to the report, it was Johri’s suggestion to conduct a meeting which includes BCCI officials in order to make things clear and have a better understanding and communication during the meetings which will be led by the Supreme Court-led COA.
It’s pertinent to mention, those members who are in the line of duty for first of the four-match Test series between Indian-Australia in Pune which will kickstart on Thursday (February 23) were excluded from the meeting.
The reports also suggest the meeting will bring few in-house matters on the table further to clarify the things under COA.
Dr MV Sridhar, who seems in the firing line after being accused in the INR 4 crore scam by the anti-corruption bureau in Hyderabad Cricket Association.
Since 2013 being appointed with BCCI, Sridhar was also the director of 2016 T20 World Cup which was held in India.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Telangana has also charged the former Hyderabad Cricket Association President (HCA), Arshad Ayub, and eight others for misusing the hefty amount which eventually caused massive loss to the association.
Ayub resigned from the post after the Apex body’s order in January.
Another BCCI manager (game development) and former women’s team coach, KVP Rao, has also faced the criticism when senior players termed the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore is in ‘shambles’ under the tutelage of Rao.
Rao earlier joined BCCI in Mumbai before being sent to Delhi following the appointment of Anurag Thakur as a BCCI President in 2016.
Earlier, COA has also directed the sacked Thakur’s employees to leave the office in Delhi in order to join cricket headquarters in Mumbai.
