Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian captain has been known for calm nature on the field with his great decisions making skills which thus is called as Captain Cool. Even though, he has been part of many controversies than any player in recent times. That might be due to his own aspects in which he hasn’t taken some proper decisions which led him to see through Legal issues and sometimes blames from Critics, media, independent Associations and even fans.
It all looked good for MS Dhoni who has been called man with a midas touch, but his controversies started during the second T20 World Cup, in 2009 hosted by England. Where reports came in showing a clash between MS Dhoni and his deputy Virender Sehwag. Later he brought up whole team before to media to prove that there was no rifts with the opener.
Later his controversies with Endorsements was all started after the 2011 World Cup due to his tying up with UB group, a Liquor brand with PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) organisation of Tamil Nadu protested against his decision.
They wanted that a youth icon must not support the alcohol brands. In these cases Dhoni must take Sachin Tendulkar as example who rejected the offer of the same company a year before, even of a better deal as he didn’t want to encourage alcohol. The protests were held outside M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai during an IPL match on the fourth season.
The next incident was also over endorsements on the same brand, this time he face trouble due to a due to a Team mate. It was Harbhajan Singh’s family who asked to remove the advertisement Dhoni featured, which looked like mocking Harbhajan.
As no one responded, the family directly went to court for the judgement. The issue was due to Harbhajan featured the opposite brand, Royal Stag Mega Cricket brand’s advertisement in which the advertisement has a tagline “Make it Large” in which he says about making his father’s ball bearing company larger than what it was.
The commercial featuring Dhoni for McDowell’s No. 1 Platinum Soda (UB Group) shows a similar person to Harbhajan who gets slapped by his father for making the huge ball bearings itself, with the character asking himself about that, “Have I made it large?”
In the end the issue was settled with the owner of the group, Vijay Mallya reacting properly and removing the advertisement.
Later he continued to feature in the McDowell’s No. 1 Platinum Soda brand’s advertisements which produced him troubles. He featured in ads shows his unique decisions; giving Joginder Sharma the last over in WT20 Final, Coming up the order in 2011 WC Final and giving a most important over to Ishant Sharma in CT13 Final which proved to be Trophy winning things.
Usage of these by the a coatian of national Team, he allowed the endorsement to use them in promotion things, which some critics and Cricket fans didn’t like. The behaviour to making those things in an endorsement that too of alcohol. However, this wasn’t a big issue as these just ended with comments.
Later once again his rift with Sehwag came out during Down Under Tour. Where Dhoni indicated Viru’s poor feilding skills in media and Sehwag responded to it taking a brilliant catch and later in media. Even Gambhir, another Indian opener lablled Dhoni’s tactics as poor, becuase Dhoni was took most chases deep down the innings many till last over.
Dhoni, been a player of Chennai Super Kings, an Indian Premier League team, faced many issues as the team is owned by BCCI president N.Srinivasan. CSK was mired in controversey after the spot fixing episode in Sixth Season, a committee was laid seeking for a probe which was headed by a Mugdal report in which it featured couple of big names and some of CSK players including MS Dhoni.
It was tough thing for MS Dhoni featuring in Stop Fixing allegations. MS Dhoni challenged a media channel in court for nearly Rs.100 Crores as they telecast over Dhoni’s involvement in IPL fixing which was Zee News which kept doing the episodes on him continuously.
In the meantime he received many blames from critics and fans in over selection of some players who are close with him and a part of CSK team. He was blamed, by some fans, to be behind the retirements of Indian Cricketing Legends.
And the latest of all was receiving arrest warrant that too after been in a tour for been featuring as Hindu God “Vishnu”, carrying all his endorsements made for cover page of “Business Today” in April 2013 edition quoting him “God of Big Brands”.
This made the sentiments of Hindus hurt. Adding more badly to it, shoe was in one of his hands. This led to filing cases against MS Dhoni in various cities in India.
After almost 15 months of that happen, a Court in Anantapur region of Andhra Pradesh issued arrest warrant against the Indian Captain and asked the Police officials to presented him on July 16th where the next day he need to play the second test of the England Tour.
The reason for the warrant was not responding or not giving proper information to the court despite of sending summons three times.
It was believed that the photo in which he featured was own edited by the magazine. But it was quite funny that he hasn’t responded to that even his picture was used without his permission.
