CPL Up There With The IPL And The Big Bash League, Says Dwayne Bravo

With over 300 T20 appearances, West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is one of the most experienced players in the shortest format of the game right now.

From plying his trade in England, India, Australia and Pakistan, Bravo has played in all the major T20 tournaments across the globe and so there is absolutely no doubt that he has a fair share of idea on their standards.

And the 33-year-old has said the standard of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is at par with the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) and Australia’s Big Bash League. West Indies’ premier T20 tournament, which began in 2013, is definitely growing stronger with every passing year.

From attendances, both at the venues and on TV, to the money and world-class players involved with the league, it can surely emerge as one of the strongest leagues in the world in the coming days.

“It’s up there with the IPL and the Big Bash. Most of these guys play in these other tournaments [as well as the CPL], like the Amlas and the McCullums, Sangakkara. The entire tournament is tough. It’s short, six teams only, and anybody on their given day can win,” Bravo told Cricbuzz.

With T20 cricket taking the world by storm, Bravo said the CPL provides a good stage for the youngsters to not only break into the national team but also earn a handsome living by playing across the globe.

“The CPL is very important because it’s a great opportunity for younger players to showcase their talent,” said Bravo. “Not only do they have the opportunity to play for the West Indies but T20 cricket is taking the world by storm and you can make a good living out of just playing T20 formats.

“Everyone looks at the CPL because it’s a very attractive tournament. It’s a tournament where you have some of the best players going head to head. Everyone loves coming to the Caribbean and playing, so it’s good. For guys who don’t have the opportunity to play international cricket, at least the CPL gives them a decent pay check where they can get a good start in life,” he added.
