Sigh of relief for Northern Districts all-rounder Scott Christopher Kuggeleijin and his family, as the Hamilton District Court jury has given their verdict, stating the 25-year-old batsman isn’t guilty in the rape trail.
“This has been a terribly difficult situation for all concerned. Northern Districts is an organisation which embraces inclusivity and promotes respect towards women,” Northern Districts’ chief executive Peter Roach was quoted as saying by Stuff.co.nz.
Over the past one week, the jury recorded statements from 10 witnesses before making the closing statement on Friday.
“The charges against Scott were a grave concern,” Roach added.
The Hamilton-born Scott has played 28 first-class games in which he has amassed 1971 runs at an average of 32.31 with three hundreds and 12 fifties.
Scott was facing rape charges, which transpired on May 17 in 2015.
“Complainant [Her] intoxication should have no bearing on her credibility or her reliability,” Crown prosecutor Jacinda Foster said.
According to a report, the panel took less than an hour before coming to the conclusion that the domestic circuit cricketer was not involved in the crime.
Scott is the son of former New Zealand cricketer Chris Kuggeleijn, who played 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Tests after making his debut in 1988 against England at Dunedin.
