Former Manchester United and current Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the world’s most charitable athlete by DoSomething.org
The Portuguese contributed $83,000 for a child’s brain surgery and used $165,000 to fund a Portuguese cancer center. Ronaldo also uses his fame as a global spokesperson for a variety of issues including childhood hunger, obesity and biodiversity.
After,Ronaldo WWE Star John Cena features in the list followed by Women’s Tennis star Serena Williams. The Brazilian and the latest Barcelona sensation Neymar finds himself fifth in the list. The other Tennis to feature in the list is the Russian Maria Sharapova in 8th position. Apparently, the only Indian to feature in the list is the Indian badmintion player Saina Nehwal, ranked 18th in the list.
The only cricketer to feature in top 20 is the Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi.
The winners of Athletes Gone Good were selected based on votes and nominations from the public, their influence on social media and advice from the Athletes Gone Good Advisory Committee.
