Dale Steyn is a champion bowler – Adam Gilchrist

The modern era might have witnessed rules shifting massively in favor of the batsmen, but that hasn’t deterred a few champion bowlers at all. In conditions where slogging has become the best alternative for the batters, the presence of some fiery pacers has ensured that the balance between the two aspects still remains.
The likes of Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn, and Stuart Broad have achieved phenomenal success in the recent past. Starc, who was the spine of his side during Australia’s otherwise dull tour of Sri Lanka, took wickets with sheer ease. Steyn too was back when he dismantled the New Zealand batting lineup at Centurion. In an interaction, when former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist was asked about his views of the best pacer, the southpaw said that it had to be Dale Steyn who was at the top.
“Starc is definitely in that bracket. If he’s not top, then he’s definitely in the top few (fast bowlers in the world),” Gilchrist said. “Dale Steyn is just coming back from injury but he’s the class act that all fast bowlers of this generation aspire to be like. “They aspire to have the results he’s had and the longevity he’s had. I think the greatest test of any champion is longevity. “That’s the sign of a champion; that you’re around long enough to be classified as that. “Dale’s done that.”
Gilchrist also keenly added that the English pair of Stuart Broad and James Anderson deserved more appreciation. The two have mauled Australia often in the last few Ashes, and Gilchrist was well aware of that fact.
“Stuart’s Broad’s a guy who just continues to impress me,” Gilchrist said. “And his bowling partner Jimmy Anderson, who our playing group just caught at the start of his career. “I don’t think we held him in as high a regard as what he clearly is now; England’s highest-ever wicket-taker,” he concluded.
