Daniel Vettori hopes of making a comeback in the upcoming series against India have been dealt a further blow as he has been ruled out due to a back injury.
The injury had forced Vettori to miss the series against West Indies and has aggravated once again which means he will not take the field against the touring Indian team.
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson raised further question marks over the spinner’s future when he said: ”Daniel Vettori won’t be considered for the India series and his international cricket career remains under an injury-darkened cloud.”
Vettori is currently representing Brisbane in the Big Bash tournament in Australia, and is expected to have a discussion over his future with the National team coach Hesson: ”I’ve spoken to Dan and he wants to come back from Australia and see how his body is, then have a good catch up with Brendon and I and chat about his future”.
Vettori was named the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this month, raising further doubts over his playing career.
The India – New Zealand series begins on the 19th of January with the ODI at Napier.
