Former Indian World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten is set to lose Delhi Daredevils’s coaching job.
As Delhi Daredevils is setting up to reform their team management for 2016 IPL (Indian Premier League), Gary Kirsten is set to be dismissed from the head-coach job.
Zaheer Khan will get a new role as coach-cum-player. The team owners are also looking for a new bowling coach for 2016 IPL.
As per The Hindu report, “In the new look Delhi set up, former India coach Gary Kirsten is unlikely to find a place as the team’s head coach.”
Kirsten took the charge over this Delhi franchise team from 2014 IPL. After that, Delhi Daredevils finished 8th and 7th position in 2014 and 2015 IPL respectively.
Kirsten is a former South African cricketer. He played for his national team from 1993 to 2004. After retirement, he came into coaching from 2008. He was the coach for Indian team from 2008 till the end of the 2011 World Cup, which India also won. Then he was appointed as full-time coach of South Africa national team. Under his coaching, Protease team also performed very well and reached the no. 1 position in the ICC Test ranking. Kirsten stepped down as coach from the South African national team in August 2013.
In 2014, Kirsten became Delhi Daredevils coach but this time his luck went wrong.
Though Delhi Daredevils had very good players for most of the time, they failed to perform to their potential. They reached semi-finals two times and the playoff once in the eight IPL tournaments.
This time, Delhi franchise are looking very desperate to change their fortune.
