Delhi Name Manoj Prabhakar As Bowling Coach, Retain KP Bhaskar As Head Coach

The Cricket Affairs Committee of DDCA led by former Indian cricketer Madan Lal made various announcements for the upcoming domestic season.

In an interesting move, the committee brought in former Indian all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar as the bowling coach of the team, who has replaced Amit Bhandari in the role.

Prabhakar had earlier played the role of a Head coach but was sacked ahead of the 2011-12 season. The second biggest appointment was that of KP Bhaskar, who has been retained as the Head coach of the side.

It is to be noted that Bhaskar and Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir had a confrontation at the end of last season, with the skipper alleging that the coach played with the careers of the youngsters in the team. Gambhir was later even banned for the confrontation. The move to retain Bhaskar in the role has come as a surprise as the players had lost faith in the coach and now it will be interesting to see how players and coach gel up for the upcoming season. Bhaskar is chosen over the likes of Vijay Dahiya, Ajay Sharma, Gurusharana Singh and many other former players for the job,

“We had to give Bhaskar a second chance. One year is not enough time to judge someone’s capability as a coach. The committee is confident that he will do a better job this year. Things like these happen sometimes but we have to move ahead in life. Hopefully, it will be better this time,” Madan Lal told PTI.

Meanwhile, Atul Wassan also retained his post of Chairman of the selection committee. Robin Singh (junior) is retained in the panel with former domestic cricketer Hari Gidwani the only new man in the committee. Gidwani has earlier been part of the selection panel but had stepped down. Interestingly, the national selector Sarandep Singh too applied for the post of selector but his application was rejected on the grounds of Lodha panel recommendations. As per the rules, a person employed in BCCI cannot hold two positions and his appointment would have been a breach of the rules.

DDCA also made some other appointments for the upcoming season. Here is the list –

Rajeev Vinayak (U-19 Coach)

Bantu Singh (U-16 Coach)

Hitesh Sharma (U-14 coach)
