England got a slight relief from losses as they could manage to win in the final ODI of the series and ending on lossing the series by 1-3. An all round team performance from England helped them to a 41 run victory over the world champions India.
Yet again, India won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Captain Cook looked with possitive intent but Hales and Ali, who got a promotion to No.3 were sent back by Umesh Yadav and Bhuvi respectively. Root who joined Cook took responsibility to built the England innings first put on 52 with Cook who got out for 46 trying to sweep Raina‘s delivery. Morgan too followed Cook as he was stumped by Dhoni of a Ashwin‘s beauty.
But a Conter attacking partnership between Butler and Root changed their innings flow. They both put on 108 in just 13.3 overs especially most of the runs came in batting power play. Butler fell for a 40 ball 49 but Root continued to score big. He scored his 2nd ODI century and got out for 113. Woakes couldn’t do any damage but Ben Stokes‘ 23 ball 33 powered ENgland to 294 for 7.
India began the chase of 295 poorly as Rahane got out for duck on third ball of innings felling to Anderson as his series’ first scalp. Soon Anderson got his second wicket, also his bunny Virat Kohli who’s horror series continued. But Rayudu who’s last innings was fifty took his time with Dhawan who smashed a unbeaten 97 in last game slowly moved forward till he tried to repeat a Six of Ali which he smashed early in the same over. Rayudu stood tall in the position as he put on 42 with Raina for fourth wicket and put on the same with captain, MS Dhoni. In this process Rayudu went on to score his 4th ODI fity and looking agressive before he was deceived by a short ball from Stokes for 53. Dhoni who looked set departed for 29 after putting 41 with Jadeja.
With the rate kept increasing but Jadeja kept trying at one end. Ashwin’t dismissal in 43rd over collapsed India as India were staggering at 209 for 9 and set for a big loss. But he added 44 more runs to the total in next 4 overs before getting bowled of Finn after scoring 87, his highest score in internationals as India got bowled out for 253 in 48.4 overs.
