Before coming to the World Cup 2015 Shikhar Dhawan’s form was of great concern. In the test series against Australia he hardly scored runs and got out for low scores. In the tri series involving England and Australia Shikhar Dhawan failed miserably. There was a lot of questions about his technique and feet movement.
In this World Cup Dhawan’s form has been pleasant surprise. He has played some fearless cricket and did a great job as an opener so far. Against a top class bowling attack South Africa which comprised of Steyn, Morkel, Dhawan looked in great touch. Dhawan started slowly scoring 50 off 70 balls. After that he played some excellent shots and made the bowlers think. He completed his 100 off 122 balls. After completing his hundred he just took the attack to the bowlers. He scored 137 runs off 146 balls hitting 17 fours and 2 sixes. India scored a competitive total of 307. India won that match by 130 runs. Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged the man of the match.
In the match against UAE, India had to score a paltry total of 102 runs. In that match Shikhar Dhawan contribution was only 14 runs. India won that match by 9 wickets with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scoring the required runs. In the fourth match against West Indies, India needed to score 182. In that match Shikhar Dhawan got out early . He scored 9 runs but MS Dhoni 45 helped India win the match by 4 wickets.
In today’s match against Ireland, India needed to score 260 on a batting friendly pitch. Shikhar Dhawan made century hitting 11 fours and 5 sixes. He played all the strokes and attacked the Ireland bowling. He was adjudged the man of the match. By the virtue of scoring a 100 he is the second highest scorer in this tournament.
