Fromer Indian International, Ajit Agarkar has said that Dhoni will be questioned as a captain if India loses this Test series against England. The series starts on July 9.

Dhoni will be leading a young side this time around, following the reiterment of Fab 4 and the dropping of several players like Sehwag , Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh , and will be under tremendous pressure both as tha captain and batsman of the side that history of 2011 does not repeat itself.

With Dhoni being a senior pro in the team, Agarkar feels that he will have an added responsibility of scoring more runs that last time around. The only reason of India persisting with Dhoni as the captain is that they don’t have any other options. Virat Kohli is the only certainty in the Test side but it’s too early to make him captain , he added.

Aishley Giles on the other hand has different ideas . He has blamed India’s focus on the limited overs as the main reason for their failure in the Tests and Dhoni cannot be blamed for it, he said. He also said that he does not feel that Dhoni will be sacked even if India loses this series. But he has similar ideas on Dhoni’s successor where he feels that Kohli is perhaps the man to succeed Dhoni but he is not ready for the job at the moment.

Dhoni has been recently taken under the hammer for his defensive tactics in Test cricket and his inability to score outside the sub continent, where he has still not managed to score a single century. Under him , India lost 10 straight Tests outside the sub continent and questions are bound to rise.

This series will be a test for Dhoni , both as captain and a batsman and perhaps a good chance to prove all his critics wrong.
