One of the costliest buys of the 2014th edition of IPL, Dinesh Karthik has been released by the Delhi Daredevils. Thus, Karthik will not be a part of the Delhi Daredevils in the next season of IPL.
Karthik was bought by the Delhi Daredevils at a record price of Rs. 12.5 Crores in the auctioning of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2014). Karthik was yet another player in the Mumbai Indians squad who missed out on retention.
Alongside Karthik, the Delhi Daredevils had also bought Kevin Pietersen and Murali Vijay ahead of the seventh season of IPL.
Delhi Daredevils had a poor season of IPL in 2014 and they finished as the bottom team of the season. Also, Karthik did not manage to provide some good performances to his team and he failed considerably which affected his team to a great extent and thus Delhi lost most of their matches in the previous team.
As a result of it, the Delhi Daredevils team management decided to release him so that they can have a choice of picking some of the talented young players in the side.
In October this year, Karthik said that with MS Dhoni in the squad, he can only stay as a reserve keeper and thus he is preparing hard to score runs and get a place in the team as a genuine batsman.
He said that as long as Dhoni would be around, he can’t think of being the wicket-keeper batsman of the Indian team.
Karthik made his international debut in the year 2004. He had been a stop-start career with the task of fulfilling various roles from being a specialist opening batsman to a non-wicket-keeper.
He also came up with the opportunities given to him on a mentionable number of occasions. But he failed to provide the consistency required to cement his place in the national team. He ran out of form in frequent intervals.
He now looks to start afresh and make his point in the national team as a regular batsman.
