Following their fantastic victory in the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, the English selectors have named an unchanged 13-man squad for the fourth and final match to be played at the Oval starting next week.
Middle order batsman James Vince, who picked up a serious finger injury on the fifth and final day of the third Test, has been cleared to play in the last Test . The left 25-year-old injured the ring finger of his left hand and had to undergo scans but everything seems fine now.
“It was dislocated but it’s all fine (now),” an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman said. “It was relocated (put back).”
Young pacer Jake Ball, who was dropped after making his Test debut at Lord’s, and Adil Rashid, the leg spinner, have been included in the squad. The ball went back to playing for Nottinghamshire and played two List A games and two Twenty20 games while Rashid, playing for Yorkshire, impressed with match figures of seven for 61.
The four-match Test series is currently led by the hosts. After losing the first Test by 75-runs, England made a remarkable comeback to win the next two Tests and take an unassailable lead of 2-1. While they thumped Pakistan by an innings and 92 runs in the second Test, a dramatic collapse from the visitors saw them winning the penultimate match by 141 runs.
