England Players Could Face Fine For Participating In IPL

Being trapped in IPL cobweb could prove to be costlier for England players as England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reportedly thinking to deduct a total of £3,500/day from salaries of players who will take part in the cash-rich league. As per a report in The Telegraph, Ben Stokes, who can be the hottest buy in the upcoming auction could lose a  total of £100,000, if the all-rounder plies his trade in the lucrative T20 league.

The step has been taken by the board to prevent its player from participating in the league. The players will be facing monetary loss if they participate in the tournament, which might put them in two minds, of playing the league or not.

It’s a surprising decision by ECB as earlier the board had allowed the players to skip the ODI series against Ireland so as to let them participate in the league but now looks like they want to prevent their players from participating the league.

The deduction will be applicable from day 1 of IPL i.e. April 5. With each passing day, the amount of £3,500 will be multiplied by time spent by an English player in the league and then a total amount will be calculated, which will be deducted thereafter.

However, the players have to return to the country latest by the second week of May in order to prepare for the Champions Trophy and to participate in the series against South Africa.
