England thrash Sri Lanka by 122 runs in final ODI to seal the series 3-0

England thrashed Sri Lanka by 122 runs in the final One-day international at Cardiff earlier today. It was an all-round display by English team who outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments.

Chasing a target of 325, the Sri Lankan innings got to a poor start losing the wicket of Kusal Perera early. After that Kusal Mendis and Dasun Gunathalike steadied the innings with 55 runs for the second wicket. Mendis was dismissed for 22. Gunathalika played well for 48 and after that, none of the Sri Lankan batsmen were able to put resistance. Dinesh Chandimal played well for his 50. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 202 in 42.4 overs. The pick of the bowlers for England team was David Willey who picked four wickets for 34 runs.

Earlier in the day Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field.England openers Jason and James Vince gave the team a  good start putting 67 for the first wicket before Jason Roy was dismissed for 34. James Vince who was playing his first match of the series scored a well made half century. Eoin Morgan did not contribute much with the bat. Jos Buttler came to the crease and attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers right from ball 1. He and Joe Root put up 109 runs for the 5th wicket. Joe Root was dismissed for 93. Jos Buttler scored a quick fire 70 off 45 balls. Contributions from these 3 players helped England to post a substantial total of 324 for 7 in 50 overs. None of the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to put pressure on England batsmen. The pick of bowlers was Gunathalika who picked 3 wickets.

England won the series the five-match series 3-0with one match tied and the other one washed out.
