England thrashed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the only T20 match at Southampton on Tuesday. It was an all-round display by England team who restricted Sri Lanka to 140 runs and chased down the target with a nonchalant ease.
Chasing a target of 141, England lost an early wicket of Jason Roy for zero. After that, Buttler survived a close call. James Vince was dismissed, which reduced England to 30 for 2 in 5 overs. Then the captain Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler played some wonderful strokes. Both of them shared 110 run stand for the third wicket. None of the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to put pressure on these two batsmen. England won the match by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare. Buttler and Eoin Morgan remained not out on 73 and 47 respectively.
After winning the toss , Sri Lanka chose to bat first. Kusal Perera was dismissed early for 13. After that Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis attacked the England bowlers putting on 39 runs for the second wicket in quick time. After that, no Sri Lankan batsmen were able to put little resistance and were out at wrong times for the islanders. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 140 runs with Gunathalika the top scorer with 26. runs. The pick of the bowlers for England were Dawson and Jordan who picked 3 wickets each.
Sri Lanka were not able to win a single match in the whole series. England dominated the series with good performances. England won the Test series 2-0, ODI series 3-0 and won the lone T20 match played today.
