Day 5 of the 3rd Test match began with India on the backfoot . Win looked almost impossible and draw seemed to be a win for them . But even a draw required some heroics from them and it was not to be. India lost the match comfortably by 266 runs.

Hits of the day’s play:

1: James Anderson: He picked up just 2 wickets today but those were the ones which completely broke India’s backbone. India needed Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to play a long innings but 2 materpiece from Anderson ensured that they both gets out early. The one to Dhoni was a gem of a delivery , coming in with the angle and then leaving Dhoni and most importantly taking away his edge.He finished with figures of 24 runs for 2 wickets in 2 overs.

2: Moeen Ali: Coming into the series, England’s weak point seemed to be the spin department. The first 2 match justified the point but this match and a 5-for him seemed to be a high point for him , and he will now push for a regular spot as an all rounder in the English Test side. After 2 wickets yesterday, things were always going to be tough for the Indians with the amount of rough created. He finished with figures of 6 for 67.

3: Ajinkya Rahane: Another solid innings by the youngster and yet another in a losing cause. He seemed to be the only batsman who played with some authority and looked comfortable against Anderson. He scored a fighting fifty and finished with 52 not out. He definetely looks a long term prospect for India now.

Flops of the day

1: Rohit Sharma: With India in deep trouble at the end of Day 4, Rohit Sharam had a lot of work on his shoulder but like most of his recent outings, he did not do justice to his talent and scored just 6 runs before edging to Anderson.

2:MS Dhoni: Another failure for MS Dhoni outside the sub continent . He has been looking uncertain outside the off stump and this innings was no different. he edged an away going delivery from Anderson before scoring just 6 runs in 11 balls.Apart from this, his defensive captaincy will definetely be brought under the scanner now.

3:Ravindra Jadeja: With Jadeja cateogarised as an all rounder and 3 domestic centuries justifies it, but he has failed to play a big innings at the International level. He scored just 15 runs out of 43 balls and the match ended then itself for India, atleast logically
