India continued their winning streak by taking this win easily. There quite few records made today. The play started with England’s batting. India won the toss and chose to field first. England started the innings with a whimper. The top batting lineup struggled and scored very few runs. But Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali came out strong and gave India a target of 207 runs to chase. On the contrary India had the best opening partnership. Rahane and Dhawan destroyed the England bowlers. This is India’s best opening partnership outside the sub-continent in the last 5 years. This should be the opening pair for India in the 2015 World Cup. Rahane’s cool and calm attitude along with Dhawan’s aggressive one is a perfect combination at the top. The opening pair did all the work for India. Now there is no question regarding the opening pair. Here is the list of the HITS and FLOPS of the 4th ODI.
Hits of the Day
1. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane made some records today. He had the best opening partnership. He and Dhawan stood tall and destroyed all the bowlers. He scored 106 runs, which is his highest in this series. And his first Hundred in ODI cricket. He alone overpowered all the bowlers. It seems that India is fully prepared for the 2015 world cup.
2. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan was another contributor to the record breaking partnership today. He displayed some great shots. He scored 97 runs. England bowlers were no match to him. After months of poor performance he showed his best side and shut all the critics. Earlier there was some news of him getting out of the World Cup squad, but now it’s sure that he will be a part of the 2015 World Cup.
3. Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali took the responsibilities of England’s batting. Where the top batsman failed he emerged strong and scored the crucial runs for England. If he didn’t play good today then England would have been all out for less than 150 runs. His contribution propelled England to the 200 run mark. He scored 67 runs.
4. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami was the best bowler today. He took 3 wickets today. Not only the batsmen but also the bowlers are performing superbly in this series. He wickets were of great help today.
5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the most economical bowler today. He took the wickets of the top order and overpowered England batsman from the beginning. In his 8 overs spell he too 2 wickets and gave just 14 runs at an economy rate of 1.8.
Flops of the Day
1. Alastair Cook
Alastair Cook, the skipper was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for only 9 runs. In the last ODI he featured in the Hits section but today he is in the Flops. He played very well in the last ODI, but today was not his day. Indians were ruling the match today.
2. Alex Hales
Alex Hales too featured in the Hits section in the last Hits and Flops article. Today unfortunately he featured in the Flops section today along with Alastair Cook. He too was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
3. Gary Ballance
Gary Ballance too was of no help today. He scored only 7 insignificant runs for England today. He must do his homework properly or else in the upcoming ODI he would be again out bowled by the Indians.
4. James Anderson
James Anderson was beaten to hell by the Rahane and Dhawan. He gave away 38 runs in just 6 overs and picked up no wicket today. He needs to do some net practice.
5. Harry Gurney
Harry Gurney although picked up the wicket of Rahane but it was too late to do that. Rahane and Dhawan did all the damage possible. He was the last bowler to bowl today and gave away 12 runs in the last over.
