England’s opening batsman Alex Hales is in contention to make a return for the tour to West Indies, which commences with first of the three ODIs on March 3 in Antigua.
Hales, who injured his finger while fielding during the second ODI against India in Cuttack, is on expected lines to see himself back in the squad, if he’s given a green signal in the scans due to happen on February 27. Even if scans suggested that Hales isn’t fully fit, he will go through the rehabilitation process with the squad in Antigua and Barbados.
In the quest to take MS Dhoni’s catch during the game, Hales landed on his finger awkwardly and fractured it. Adding to it, he went onto to miss the final ODI and 3 T20Is too. Sam Billings, who replaced him in the squad is likely to open alongside Jason Roy in the two warm-up games in St. Kitts.
Hales has had a great 2016 with the bat, having to score his career-best figure of 171 against Pakistan at his home ground in Trent Bridge. Also, he smashed a total of three centuries last year.
