The latest season of IPL is underway and cricket fans all over the world are once more excited to witness this spectacular extravaganza. While everybody loves to see this slam-bang format, it is a nightmare format for the bowlers. With smaller grounds, innovative shots,and modern bats, the game is tilted towards the batsmen more than ever. IPL has witnessed enough occasions when the batsmen have thrashed the bowlers.

6. Virender Sehwag v Andrew Symonds – 30 RUNS:

The first instance of 30 runs scored in an over in the history of Indian Premier League happened in just the seventh match of the tournament. Chasing the target of 143, Delhi needed 31 runs at the end of 12th over and then came the over. Sehwag hit Symonds for 30 runs in the 13th over to take Delhi home comfortably.

The second instance of 30 runs in an overcame in the fourth season of IPL at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamsala. Batting first the team from Punjab was in a comfortable position due to a 100- runs stand between Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist in 12 overs. It was the 15th over of the innings bowled by South African Johan van der Wath to Shaun Marsh, in which Marsh collected 30 runs hitting three sixes and as many fours.

4. Chris gayle and Saurabh Tiwary v Rahul Sharma – 31 RUNS:

Chasing a tough target of 183 runs, Royal Challengers Bangalore were in a spot of bother at the end of 12th over with only 76 runs  on the board. They needed 107 runs in 8 overs at a run rate of more than 13.
Chris Gayle was batting at 41 runs off 36 balls. It was the 13th over when he decided to take on the Pune Warriors’ bowling. Rahul Sharma bowled the over and at the strike was Saurabh Tiwary. Tiwary took a single of the first ball and Gayle came to strike. After that, it was only sixes all the way.

3. Chris Gayle v Ravi Bopara – 33 RUNS:

The joint second highest number of runs in an over is 33 runs. It involves Chris Gayle once again but this time, he played for KKR.
Batting first, KKR scored 89 runs for the loss of 1 wicket at the end of 12th over.

The 13th over was bowled by Ravi Bopara and the batsman on the strike was Manoj Tiwary and on the other end was Chris Gayle. Gayle hit four sixes in consecutive balls in the over and then two wides yielding seven runs increased the over tally to 33 runs.

The second qualifier of the 2014 season between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai saw Suresh Raina at his destructive best. Chasing a huge target of 227 to qualify for the final match of the season, Raina made it look quite achievable
when he scored 87 runs off just 25 balls. It included an over of 33 runs against Parvinder Awana, who bowled the final over of the powerplay, the 6th over.

IPL has never seen six sixes hit in an over but more than 36 runs were scored in an over once. Kochi Tuskers Kerala played just the one IPL season in 2011 and it was in the 50th match of the season that this fateful over was bowled. KTK set a target of 126 for RCB at Bangalore. RCB openers Dilshan and Gayle scored nine runs in the first over and 20 in the second over. In the third they scored more than they scored combined in the first two. The third over was played by Chris Gayle completely and he hit four sixes and three fours to score 37 runs which included a no-ball.
