After the success in the third test England has decided to reshuffle the squad by bringing on Finn in place off Plunkett in the Third test. Steven Finn was named as Liam Plunkett’s replacement in the 13-man England squad for the Old Trafford Test against India, starting on Thursday 7th of August.

Plunkett, who contributed England with his performance in the first three Tests – he played the first two but was dropped, as  he was injured little in the second test. He was dropped in favour of Chris Woakes for the third as he experienced some left ankle discomfort at the end of the second Test, according to a report on the England and Wales Cricket Board website. He will miss the fourth Test as this continues to settle this was what report said.

Plunkett bowled 94 overs in the first two Tests, picking up seven wickets at an average of 41.28 overall. However, with Woakes going wicketless in Southampton, Plunkett was expected for a comeback at Old Trafford. Now, Finn is called up in place of Plunkett, he might gain in Plunkett’s absence unless the team management decides to give Woakes one more go.

Finn played the last of his 23 Test matches from which he has 90 wickets at 29.40 at Nottingham against Australia more than a year back in July 2013. Kevin Pietersen is also excited in Finn’s inclusion and hopes that he can make his mark in the remaining matches of the series.

After that he was dropped, but has had a good domestic season, where he has taken 44 wickets at 29.72 in ten matches for Middlesex in Division One of the County Championship so far. So this made the selectors select Finn to replace Plunkett for fourth test. Let’s see if he gets a chance in the 4th test ahead of Woakes.
