The Indian team selection panel led by MSK Prasad will select the team for the limited-overs series against England on Thursday, i.e. January 5. Earlier, there were rumors that two of the selectors namely Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe might not be a part of the selection meeting as they both do not fit in the scheme of things but the air has been cleared and both of them will take part in the meeting.
As per the Lodha recommendations, these two selectors are not eligible to be a part of the selection panel. The conditions of Lodha recommendations state the selection committee should comprise of three members and in addition to that, a selector should have played a Test match for being eligible to be a member of the panel.
Both Khoda and Paranjpe haven’t played a Test match, which rules them out of the equation and automatically will cut down the selection panel to three.
Talking of the team to be selected on Thursday, M.S. Dhoni is set to retain his captaincy in the limited-overs format. Injured players like Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Shami, Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav are set to miss the series.
Ishant Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan might make a comeback in the series. Suresh Raina is also set to retain his place in the squad as well.
The selectors might also considering few players to give them some extra time off before the one-off Test against Bangladesh followed by four-match series against Australia.
