World T20 2016: Five turning points from India vs West Indies clash

West Indies defeated India in the second semi-finals by 7 wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It was an excellent display of power hitting by the West Indies batsmen after a good total by the Indian batsmen who scored 192. The Indian bowlers bowled two no balls which proved to be costly in the end.

Aggressive start by Indian openers

West Indies won the toss and choose to field at Mumbai. The Indian team had a new opener in today’s semi-finals match. Rohit Sharma started the innings with Rahane. Both of them gave the team a flying start to the team. Rohit Sharma was the aggressive batsmen hitting sixes which set the foundation for a big total. In the first six over’s, India scored 55 runs out of which 41 was scored by Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the 8th over which gave a solid foundation for India. India was 62 for 1. At that time Rahane had scored 17 runs off 14 balls.

Another special innings by Kohli

Kohli came at the crease after the fall of Rohit Sharma wicket. Kohli was given 2 chances in 2 successive balls but West Indies could not take the chance. After that, Kohli picked singles and hit bad balls away for boundaries. Kohli and Rahane put on 65 runs for the second wicket. Kohli continued his aggression and played wonderful strokes. He completed his half-century 33 balls. After completing his fifty smashed the West Indies bowlers to all parts of the ground and created pressure on West Indies bowlers. Kohli and Dhoni put on an impressive 65 for the third wicket in 4 over’s. Virat Kohli remained not out on 88 not out which helped India to post a competitive total of 192

Getting rid of Gayle early

Chasing 193, the Indian bowlers got off to a great start as Jasprit Bumrah picked the wicket of Chris Gayle in the 2nd over. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a Yorker which rattled the stumps of Chris Gayle. It was a big wicket for the Indian team as Chris gayle was dismissed for 5 runs. West Indies was 6 for 1. West Indies needed a good start but they were not able to provide a solid start.

Lendl Simmons surviving chances

Lendl Simmons came at the crease when West Indies was struggling at 18 for 2. Simmons took time to settle. In the 7th Simmons was caught by Jasprit Bumrah but it was called a no-ball. After that he took the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground. Again in 15th over Pandya took the wicket of Simmons but again was called a no ball. In the 18th over Simmons hit a ball and was caught on the boundary but Jadeja stepped on the line. Simmons finally went to score 82 not out and helped West Indies to reach the finals of the ICC World T20 tournament.

Aggressive hitting by Andre Russell

Andre Russell came at the crease when the score was 120 for 3 in 14th over. West Indies needed 73 off 36 balls. Andre Russell took Pandya for 2 sixes which changed the momentum for West Indies. Russell looked in serious mood smashing the Indian bowlers. Russell with Simmons stitched an important partnership of 73. Russell hit the winning run of Kohli bowling. Russell remained not out on 43 off 19 balls which helped West Indies to win the match by 7 wickets.
