The eight teams which are competing in the mega event also include Bangladesh after the West Indies failed to break into the eight-nation mega event following their dismal show in One-day Internationals.
As most of the players were trying to impress their national selectors while giving their hundred percent both bat and a ball, the BCCI officials were busy in chalking out best of the contingent for the overseas fifty-over International competition following the stern warning from Committee of Administrators to announce the squad at the earliest.
Interestingly, the last date for squad submission was set as April 25 by world cricket governing body International Cricket Council and BCCI announced the squad after two days.
However, in this scenario, the cricketing boards can announce their respective squads under different circumstances, according to the constitution of ICC.
Earlier, BCCI had told global cricket board they were not able to announce the squad owing to officials citing it as one of the ‘operational’ reasons with Virat Kohli participating currently in Indian Premier League (IPL) as Royal Challengers skipper which further didn’t allow board members – to discuss the national squad selection at the length and breadth.
India is all set to play two warm-up matches on May 28 and May 30 against New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively. Both the matches will be played at The Oval and will start at 3:00 PM IST.
In 2013, under the dynamic leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Men in Blue lifted coveted trophy against England after beating hosts by five runs, in a ran-hit final which saw only 20 overs were bowled by both teams respectively.
